How trading card layout works
A trading card trims to 2.5 × 3.5 in (63.5 × 88.9 mm). Extend any edge-to-edge artwork 0.125 in (3 mm) past the trim as bleed, and keep names, stats and logos inside a 0.125 in safe margin so nothing is lost to cutter drift. Nine cards fit 3 × 3 on a Letter or A4 sheet; gang them up with crop marks so a print shop can guillotine the stack in a few cuts. For the full math, see the card printing layout engineering guide.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the standard trading card size?
- The standard trading card is 2.5 × 3.5 inches (63.5 × 88.9 mm). Add a 0.125 in (3 mm) bleed on every edge for a total artwork size of 2.75 × 3.75 in, and keep important text and logos inside a 0.125 in safe margin from the trim.
- How many trading cards fit on a sheet?
- Nine 2.5 × 3.5 in cards fit 3-up × 3-up on a US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 sheet. The Letter and A4 templates above are already laid out 9-up with crop marks, so you can print and guillotine straight to finished cards.
- How do I print the front and back of a trading card?
- Design the front and back using the single-card template so both share the same trim and bleed, then impose them double-sided. In PDF Press, add your card PDF, choose the Cards layout, enable duplex, and the front and back sheets are aligned automatically before export.
- Do I need bleed on a trading card template?
- Yes. Any color or image that should reach the card edge must extend 0.125 in (3 mm) past the trim, or a thin white sliver can appear after cutting. The templates include the bleed edge so you can extend artwork to it.
- Can I impose my own trading card PDF instead of using a template?
- Yes. If you already have a finished single-card PDF, open the Cards imposition tool, set the card size and sheet, add crop marks and gutters, and PDF Press arranges the cards many-up on the press sheet — no template needed. Everything runs in your browser with no upload.
